Chapter 8 Information System Security
Chapter 8 of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) specifies
the security requirements and procedures for information systems that handle classified
information. The first Industrial Security Letter that the Defense Security Service issued in
2007 expanded on and clarified topics presented in chapter 8 of the NISPOM. It is important for
organizations with information systems that have been accredited for processing classified
information to read and implement the guidance provided in that Industrial Security Letter, in
addition to that in the NISPOM.
Secure Defense Consulting® Incorporated can support companies' compliance with the
NISPOM, including chapter 8. We can assist with the certification & accreditation process,
security education of information system users, and more. Please contact us to discuss your
situation and concerns.
